Overview

Given the complexity and invasive nature of these procedures, ED providers need hands on training and practice for the following procedures:

1. Facial nerve blocks

2. Laceration repair

3.  Digital nerve block

4. Wrist arthrocentesis

5. Knee arthrocentesis

6. Incision and drainage of abscess

7. Wrist tendon injury identification

8. Foreign body identification and localization with ultrasound

9.  Splinting (ulnar, thumb spica, sugar tong, volar and posterior)

10. Shoulder joint reduction

11. Lumbar puncture


Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, after performing procedures on human cadavers, high fidelity task trainers, or models for each of the 11 procedures listed, participants will be able to:


  1. 1. Define indications and contraindictions, landmarks, complications, and techniques for the procedures.
  2. 2. Perform the procedures with competence.
