Overview

The 18th Annual William J. Weiner Town-Gown Symposium will present a comprehensive overview of important and timely neurologic topics.  It will provide information that will assist the intended audience in managing patients with a variety of neurological disorders. An emphasis on recent developments in diagnosis, treatment and management will be provided, highlighting research being done at the University of Maryland.  Positive interaction between community Neurologists and University of Maryland School of Medicine faculty has contributed to the growth and popularity of this symposium.  This year’s symposium will cover the following areas: epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, sleep, and vertigo. There will be a case presentation from the William J. Weiner General Neurology Service. The “Town” co-host this year is Dr. Francis Mwaisela.


Objectives
  1. 1. Identify current treatment options for acute ischemic stroke
  2. 2. Identify new ways to treat motor fluctuations in Parkinson Disease
  3. 3. Be able to diagnose Restless Legs Syndrome and be familiar with treatment options
  4. 4. Review decision making in early withdrawal of life sustaining therapies
  5. 5. Recognize the value of addressing health disparities and propose potential solutions

Accreditation

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine designates this Live activity for a maximum of 4.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
