Overview

Description 
Medical lectures and presentations are an important part of teaching in academic medicine. However, this vital skill is not well-taught within the medical field. The speaker will discuss many of the techniques used by professional speakers outside the medical field, with particular emphasis on “audience-centered speaking,” and discuss how these techniques and “pearls” can be used by physicians that are giving medical presentations.

The conclusion of the presentation, audience members will be able to… 
1. List the most common pitfalls that occur in medical presentations
2. Describe the importance of the “elevator speech” and having a definite purpose when constructing a lecture. 
3. Describe some tips to maintain audience attention during a presentation.
