Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

 

  1. Describe the relationship between the UMMS, UMMC and the school of medicine. Review the structure of how things get accomplished at UMMC.
  2. Describe the leadership structure of the hospital and its committees
  3. Identify key elements of the hospital, including behind the scene exclusives of how the hospital functions operationally.
  4. Describe how Maryland's Medicare waiver creates a different landscape for its pay for performance measures and how it affects hospitals across the state
  5. Be able to identify what is expected of their role and how they can hold themselves and others accountable.
  6. Develop crucial conversation skills to utilize with leaders, colleagues, and patients.
  7. Develop methods on how to get others on board through creating a compelling vision and understanding how to approach different roles based on their status and buy in.
  8. Describe methods to motivate other leaders and get them to engage in projects and priorities for the good of the organization and the patients we serve.
  9. Identify methods through TeamSTEPPS to communicate through standardized templates and methods to empower everyone on the team to speak up for safety.
  10. Identify a project, including the key components that must be completed at the beginning of a project in order to sustain success.
  11. Demonstrate the key components to launching a successful project that includes the key components that must be completed at the beginning of a project in order to sustain success.
  12. Analyze the current state of a problem and define metrics to measure success.
  13. Identify root causes and gaps that are key to solving your problem.
  14. Identify Lean and Six Sigma principles to use in designing your future state and develop an implementation plan to get solutions to stick.
  15. Identify how to hard wire a process and validate that the goals have been accomplished to see sustainment.
  16. Identify a patient safety event and a near miss.
  17. Develop the thought process of a safety conscious leader.
  18. Demonstrate how to use RCA Tools by walking through cases that didn't turn out as expected and determine the root causes that contributed to the outcome.
  19. Describe Just Culture and how it fits into the hospital’s HRO aspirations.
  20. Demonsrate the ability to walk through the Just Culture algorithm to determine how each member involved in the case should be held accountable.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
