Overview
This is the AAMC – Cook Ross, Inc. course on unconscious bias for healthcare professions audiences.  This evidence-based workshop will help participants explore how their assumptions impact behavior and choices around communication, patient care, innovation, hiring, promotion, education and building organizational culture.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the science and research of unconscious bias.
  2. Identify how bias and the processes of the unconscious mind can impact critical healthcare decisions and results.
  3. Become aware of your own background, and its impact on your perception so you are better able to advocate for inclusion in your institution.
  4. Apply new strategies for practicing more conscious awareness individually and institutionally.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
